Talk about your experience on Sunday morning.

  • How did God speak to you during worship and/or teaching this week?
  • What have you been reflecting on and/or praying about in response to this week’s service?

Read Mark 1:1-8 together.

  • Mark jumps right in to the story of Jesus by revealing his true divine nature to us (i.e. “The Messiah”, “The Son of God.”) Why do you think Mark starts his Gospel by clearly identifying Jesus’ divinity?
  • Is Jesus’ divinity something that you have ever doubted or struggled with? Explain.
  • Many people in today’s culture like to describe Jesus as a good teacher or a prophet, but stop short at calling him God in the Flesh. Why do you think so many struggle with this aspect of Christianity?
  • Jeff described Jesus’ divinity is a fundamental, central doctrine of the Christian faith. Do you agree with that? Why or why not?
  • Its interesting that of all the important people God chose to be his messenger, he chose John the Baptist. What do you think this shows us about the message of Christianity?
  • “If God used John the Baptist, he can use anybody!” Have you ever felt like God can’t use you? Why? How does the story of John the Baptist encourage you?
  • Our calling is very similar to John the Baptist’s calling – to “Prepare the Way” for Christ in other people’s lives. What do you think this looks like in practical terms?

Spend some time in prayer for one another as a group. Pray that God would use us this week to prepare the way for the Lord in other people’s lives!
