Talk about your experience on Sunday morning.

  • How did God speak to you during worship and/or teaching this week?
  • What have you been reflecting on and/or praying about in response to this week’s service?

Read Mark 1:35-39 together.

    • What stood out to you as you read this passage? Why?
    • Look back at Mark 1:21-34, which all happened the day before. How do you think Jesus felt after a long day of ministry?
      • What do you typically do when you are mentally, emotionally and spiritually exhausted?
      • Do you find these things that you do actually recharge your spiritual batteries?
    • Jesus got up before daybreak (at around 4AM) to be alone and to and to pray. What does this reveal to us about Jesus’ priorities?
      • Do you find that you spend time with God more or less when you are stressed out and busy? Why?
      • Jeff said, “If the Son of God needed to spend so much time in prayer, then how much more do we need to?” Why is it that we so often think we can get by in our own strength?
    • Jesus disciples were clearly feeling pressure from the crowd to find Jesus. They were operating with a different set of priorities than Jesus was. How does people-pleasing and “the expectations of the crowd” have the potential to stress us out and to make us anxious?
      • How was Jesus different from his disciples in this way? What does this reveal to us about Jesus’ priorities?
      • How can you become more like Jesus in this way (less driven by the expectations of the crowd, and more driven by the expectations of the Father)?
    • After spending time in prayer, Jesus decided that it was time for him to go on to other towns and to preach to them as well. He was focused on his calling.
      • How does busy-ness and stress have the potential to distract us from our true calling in life?
    • Jeff said, “Sometimes we have to say “NO!” in order to say “YES!” to the Father”.
      • What (or who) is God asking you to say No to in order to say yes to him? What next step is God inviting you to take in this area this week?
