Talk about your experience on Sunday morning.

  • How did God speak to you during worship and/or teaching this week?
  • What have you been reflecting on and/or praying about in response to this week’s service?
  • Spend a few minutes checking in about people’s experience through the Bible Reading Plan through the Gospel of Matthew. What has God been teaching people?

Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 and John 13:34-35 together.

  • Paul was adamant about the role of love in the believer’s life, saying that without love “I would be nothing.” What makes ‘love’ such an important element of a Deeply Rooted Faith?
  • Considering Jesus’ words in John 13, how would you define love?

Read 1 John 4:7-21 together.

  • What words/phrases/concepts struck you most as you read this passage? Why?
  • How does “the Gospel” make us loving?
    • What do you think is happening in our hearts and relationship with Christ when we aren’t being loving towards other people?
  • John said, “We love because He loved us first.” How does knowing that we are loved in Christ free us to be loving?

Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 together.

  • Of all the definitions & behaviors of love provided in these verses, which one(s) do you struggle with the most?
  • How does understanding that God is patient, kind etc… free us to live out this kind of love?

Rubber meets the road:

  • Who is someone in your life that you find hard to love? What does it look like to be loving towards them?
  • How could this kind of love (1 Cor 13 love) better display itself in your marriage? Relationships with your kids? Coworkers? Friends? Be as specific and practical as possible?

Spend some time in prayer for one another. Pray that we would be a people who are deeply rooted in the love of Christ!
