Coming out of Sunday January 10th’s teaching, “RESET: Becoming Like Jesus”, spend some time in prayerful reflection and dialogue with your Home Church/Friends/Family around any combination of these questions:

Read Galatians 5:16-23 before starting. Pray and ask God to speak.

  • On Sunday, Jeff shared on some unChristlike character flaws that he has noticed in himself throughout COVID (i.e. “Sunday afternoon Jeff”). Have you noticed this in your life too? If so, how?
  • Jeff said that “Becoming Like Jesus” should be a central goal for every follower of Jesus. Do you agree? Why or why not?
  • Look at Romans 12:2. What does this passage teach us about the process of spiritual transformation? What has your understanding been about ‘how’ a person becomes more like Jesus?
  • Jeff introduced us to the concept of “The Golden Triangle” (Dallas Willard, “The Great Omission”), which includes three sides to the spiritual formation process (see below). Which of the three sides/points did you sense God most speaking to you through? Why?

  • In Galatians 5:16-23, the Apostle Paul talks about being led by the Holy Spirit instead of by our sinful natures. What is your reaction to this passage? What does it mean to “let the Holy Spirit guide your lives” instead of your “sinful nature?”
  • In 2 Peter 1:3-10, Peter talks about “making every effort” in our life with God. How does this work in tandem with letting the Holy Spirit guide your life? How this create a tension for you between ‘human effort’ and ‘relying on the Spirit’? Why, or why not?
  • What is the role of Spiritual Disciplines in the process of “becoming like Jesus” (see 1 Tim 4:8)? What disciplines do you sense God inviting you to engage in more fully in 2021?
  • In James 1:2-4, James talks about how enduring through suffering will mature and grow us. “Pain & Suffering is the Holy Spirit’s greenhouse… it’s where he does his best work.” What’s your reaction to this, especially during this COVID season? How might God be wanting to use this COVID season to make you more like Jesus?
REFLECTING TOGETHER:
(Reflection Questions from Sunday’s message. Feel free to share your responses with the group)
• What is one character issue that you have noticed in your life recently that you need God to change in you in 2021?
• What does it look like for you to be more “led by the Spirit” in 2021?
• What does it look like for you to ‘resist the drift’ and to be more intentional to “create space for God in your life” every day in 2021?
