Talk about your experience on Sunday morning.
- How did God speak to you during worship and/or teaching this week?
- What have you been reflecting on and/or praying about in response to this week’s service?
Read Mark 1:9-15 together.
- We can learn a lot about the main character of any story/movie/TV show within the first few moments they appear on the scene. What are some things we can learn about Jesus in these opening scenes?
- Why do you think Jesus started his ministry off by being baptized? How does the baptism of Christ reveal the message of Christ and why it is that he came?
- Jeff talked about how the words of God to Jesus after his baptism, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy” are words that God also says to us. Why is it so important in life that we have clarity of our identity in Christ?
- Verse 12 tells us that the Spirit compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness. Why does God sometimes lead us into ‘wilderness’ type places (places of temptation, suffering, discouragement etc…)?
- What has your experience been in the wilderness? What has this looked like for you in your journey with Christ?
- Adam & Even gave into temptation but Jesus did not. What does this reveal to us about the message of Christ?
- Hebrews 4:15 tells that Christ was tempted just like us but did not sin. How does knowing this make Jesus even more relate-able to us?
- Jesus message was that, “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
- What is the “Kingdom of God”? How does God’s kingdom compare to the Kingdom of this world?
- What does this mean in practical terms for us? (that the Kingdom of God is near, to ‘repent’ and ‘believe’?)
- Spend some time in prayer for each other as a group. Pray that we would all know and love Jesus more!
