Read Mark 3:7-19 together.

  • What stood out to you as you read this passage? Why?

Jeff shared 5 Reflection Questions in his message as he taught through this passage on Sunday. Take some time to discuss these 5 questions together:

  • Do you have people/friends who are actually in your life (i.e. safe people who know the good, bad and the ugly about you and love you anyway)? Who are they? (V.7)
    • What does that relationship actually look like? How has God used these people in your life?
  • How do you sometimes use Jesus? (V.8)
    • The crowd only really wanted Jesus for what Jesus could do for them. They didn’t really want Jesus for who he was. How do we so often fall into this trap?
    • Jeff gave one example of “using Jesus” – When are prayer are mostly prayers of petition and request, as opposed to prayers of intimacy and relationship with Jesus.
  • How have I looked to religion (i.e. rule-keeping/score-keeping/morality) to do what only Jesus can do? (V.7-8)
    • The crowds flocked to Jesus, knowing that Jesus could meet their needs (not the religious leaders). What are some current needs in your life that are bringing you to the feet of Jesus?
  • Am I really living a victorious Christian life? If not, why not? (V.10-11)
    • Demons shrieked at the sight of Jesus, and yet we so often live like they are defeating us. Why is this?
    • What is one area of struggle that you are feeling ‘defeated’ in right now? What can you do about it to break through into the victory and power of Jesus?
  • How have I stopped obeying Christ because it was just too hard and/or inconvenient? (V.15)
    • Jesus gave authority to his disciples to cast out demons because when you live the kind of life Jesus calls us to live, we will experience spiritual opposition from the enemy. How have you experienced this in your life? How are you experiencing attack right now?
    • What can you do to avoid the trap of ‘giving up’ or becoming mediocre in your faith because it is so hard?
