These Discussion Questions are coming out of Sunday April 6th’s message “Know Your Authority” from our “Deliver Us From Evil” sermon series. They are intended to be used in Home Churches/Small Groups, and/or for personal reflection. Feel free to use as many or as few of these questions as is helpful.
- What were some of your main takeaways from Sunday’s teaching, “Know Your Authority”?

- Have you ever had an experience where you sensed spiritual/demonic opposition? How did you respond?
- Genesis 1:26-28; 2:19 shows that God created humanity to exercise authority over creation in partnership with Him, but that Adam & Eve forfeited that authority in Genesis 3 through the fall. What are some implications of this for us today?
- How did Jesus’ victory on the cross restore our authority over the enemy? How should this impact the way we live?
- In Mark 1:21-28, Jesus’ first public act of ministry involved confronting a demonic spirit. Why do you think this was significant? What does it reveal about the nature of His mission?
- The demons in the story recognized and even spoke to Jesus. What does this tell us about the spiritual realm and how the enemy operates?
- Jesus silenced the demon and commanded it to leave. How does this demonstrate the power of His word? How can we apply this principle when confronting spiritual opposition in our lives?
- In what ways do we see evil at work in the world today? How do you think Jesus would confront it if He were walking among us now?
- If confronting evil was such a significant part of Jesus’ ministry, why do you think it is less emphasized in many churches today?
- Jesus gave His followers authority over the demonic (Mark 16:17). Do you believe this authority is still relevant for believers today? Why or why not?
- What are some ways the modern church can better engage in spiritual warfare while remaining faithful to Jesus’ example?
