If you missed Sunday April 30th’s message, you can listen to it here.
- Read Mark 9:38-50 together. What stood out to you as you read the passage? What questions did it raise for you? How should the bigger context (i.e. Mark 9:33-37) of this passage influence the way we understand this passage?
- Jeff talked about “Three Heart Attitudes a Servant”: Being Radically Inclusive (V38-41), Radically Repentant (V42-48) and Radically Peaceful (V50). Which of these three Heart Attitudes did God most challenge you on as you read the passage? Why?
- Being Radically Inclusive: In verses 38-41, Jesus confronted a competitive/critical “us & them” spirit within the disciples by saying “whoever is not against us is for us.” In light of this, what does ‘radical inclusivity’ look like? What makes inclusivity so important for people who want to be ‘servants of all’?
- Being Radically Repentant: In verses 42-48, Jesus made some pretty extreme statements about how we should respond to sin in our lives. What was Jesus’ point? What makes it important for us, as servants, to be repentant and to be relentless about dealing with the sin in our lives?
- Being Radically Peaceful: In verse 50, Jesus said that we must have the same qualities of salt (a preservative) and live in peace with everyone. What was he talking about here? What makes it important, as servants, to live IN peace with everyone?
- How do these three “heart attitudes” have the potential to make us “servants of all”?
- What is your next step in response to this Sunday’s teaching?
