Missed Sunday November 12th’s teaching, “The End of the World?”? Listen here.
- How did God speak to you throughout the service on Sunday?
- Read Mark 13 in it’s entirety together. What observations, questions, or thoughts come to mind? In what ways has this passage (or passages like these, regarding the end times) been confusing to you (or other people that you know)?
- Have you ever encountered a ‘prediction’ or a ‘timetable’ of the end times before? What are your thoughts about these kinds of things?
- What is the context of Mark 13 (verses 1-4)? Why is this important?
- In 70 AD, Rome destroyed the temple (as Jesus predicted), meaning that the only thing discussed in Mark 13 yet to happen is the return of Christ. How does that change the way you think about the end times and some of the ‘signs’ we see listed here in Mark 13? Why does this matter?
- Does the image of Christ returning (verse 26) make you hopeful or fearful? Why? What is it about Christ’s return that makes some so fearful? How can it give us hope?
- Seven times, Jesus told his disciples to be ready for the return of Christ by “being on guard” (i.e. be discerning) and to “stay alert” (i.e. be faithful). What’s significant about these instructions from Jesus to us?
- What does it mean to “be discerning” in today’s world?
- What does it mean to “be faithful?”
- Why do you think that these are the only two instructions that Jesus gave to his disciples about being ready for his return?
- Read Revelation 21:4 together and discuss the reality of what Christ’s return will mean for our world. How does this truth have the potential to change the way you live today?
- Spend some time in prayer for one another as a group.
