If you missed Sunday January 19th’s message, “The Lord’s Prayer: Hallowed Be Your Name”, you can watch or listen to it online by clicking here. In your Home Church, use as many or as few of these discussion questions as you need to in order to start a good conversation:
- Pray together to open things up, concluding with The Lord’s Prayer.
- Tonight’s discussion is about the first petition and the second line in the Lord’s Prayer, “Hallowed Be Your Name“. How have you understood this line coming in to tonight’s discussion? Why is this section of the prayer sometimes confusing for people?
- What is significant about the “your name” part of the prayer? What was Jesus getting at by saying “Hallowed be YOUR NAME?”
- Consider some of the names of God from the Bible (below). What name(s) most resonate with you? Why?
- Father/Abba – “Daddy” (Matthew 6:9)
- Elohim – “Creator God” (Genesis 1:1)
- Adonai – “Sovereign Lord” (Genesis 15:2)
- El Shaddai – “God Almighty” (Genesis 17:1)
- Jehovah Jireh – “God My Provider” (Genesis 22:17)
- El Roi – “The God Who Sees” (Genesis16:13-14)
- Jehovah Rapha – “The God Who Heals” (Exodus 15:26)
- Yahweh/YHWH – “I AM” (Exodus 3:13-14)
- What does it mean to make God’s name “hallowed”? What was Jesus getting at here?
- Why do you think Jesus made the first petition/request in The Lord’s Prayer about worship? What’s significant about that?
- Jeff talked about how worship requires both REVELATION (from God) and RESPONSE (from us). How is this seen in the line “Hallowed Be Your Name”? What makes this significant in how we approach God?
- Jeff shared some other ways we can pray “Hallowed Be Your Name” (below). Which one(s) resonate with you? Why?
- “Reveal yourself to me, so I can worship you for who you are.”
- “May those that I love come to see you for who you are, so that they will worship you as Lord of their lives too.”
- “Empower me to make your name holy in my life.”
- “Show me any ways that I have made it about me and taken glory for myself.”
- “Let my worship be deep, authentic and true to who you are.”
- “Awaken our church family to worship you with passion in response to your revelation”
- “Show me your heart, so that I can more fully surrender mine to you.”
- How has God revealed himself (his character, nature etc…) to you in your journey with him lately? How are you sensing God inviting you to respond?
- Spend some time in prayer, praising God our Father and declaring him as Holy in our lives.
