A LEADER’S GREATEST FEAR
Sunday October 4, 2015
Conversation Starters

  • Talk about your experience on Sunday morning.
    • How did God speak to you during worship?
    • Did you meet anyone new?
    • What was your main take-a-way from the message?

“A Shadow Mission is our authentic mission that is hijacked by our ego and our wounds, and there’s no Jesus in it. But if you don’t know it, if you don’t name it, if you don’t share it with the people around you, it’s very hard to fight.”

  • Do you have clarity around your “authentic mission” in life? What is it?
  • What is your shadow mission? Have you ever named it? Do you even know what it is?
    • In what ways (behaviors, attitudes, emotions) do you see this Shadow Mission appear in your life?

“Your Shadow Mission is something you will fight against for your entire life”

  • Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?
  • If you had (or could) name our church’s Shadow Mission, what do you think it might me?

“Esther had a Mordecai, and that changed everything…”

  • Who is “Mordecai” in your life? Who loves you enough to challenge you to avoid settling for your Shadow Mission?
    • Do you have regular, fearless conversations with someone in your life about your “Shadow Mission” and your flaws and struggles? Why or why not?
    • In what ways can we be like Mordecai to each other as a Home Church?

“Jesus stared his Shadow Mission (to avoid the cross) in the face and at a cost we will never understand, he says “No””

  • Jesus is our great example. What can we learn from Jesus when it comes to confronting our Shadow Missions?
  • Spend some time in prayer as a group. Ask Jesus to give us his supernatural strength to fight our Shadow Missions!
