If you missed Sunday May 14th’s message, you can give it a listen here.

  • How did God speak to you during Sunday’s service?
  • Prior to Sunday’s message, what was your understanding of what the Bible taught about divorce & remarriage? How did Sunday’s message confront, change or affirm those things?
  • How has the issue of divorce impacted your life (and/or shaped you) personally?
  • Read Mark 10:1-12 together. What jumped out at you as you read this passage?
  • Jesus responded to the Pharisees reference to the Old Testament Law on Divorce (in Deuteronomy 24:1) by pointing to God’s intention for marriage in Creation (Genesis 1 & 2). What’s so significant about this?
    • Take a closer look at some of the language that Jesus uses to describe marriage. What does it mean to be “united into one”?  What does Jesus mean when he says “let no one split apart what God has joined together?” What is God’s vision for marriage?
  • Jeff talked about some of the instances that the Bible makes allowances for divorce: Adultery (Matt 19) and Abandonment (1 Corinthians 7). It’s pretty clear what adultery is, but abandonment can mean a few different things. What makes “Abandonment” a bit of a grey area in a marriage?
  • In Verses 11-12, Jesus seemed to condemn remarriage of all kinds. Jeff made the case that Jesus was talking about remarriage in the event that a man leaves his wife (or a wife leaves her husband) for another person. How should this shape the way we think about and approach remarriage in the church?
  • Jeff’s main point on Sunday was that we need to become the kind of people who fight for our marriages. But what does that mean? What does it look like to fight for your marriage?
  • Jeff talked about marriages in crisis, marriages that are just surviving but not thriving, and marriages that are thriving. Where is your marriage at (if you are married) on the continuum? How can you fight for your marriage, in order to further realize God’s vision for YOUR marriage?
