- What have you been reflecting on and/or praying about in response to this week’s service?
- Spend a few minutes checking in about people’s experience through the Bible Reading Plan through the Gospel of Matthew. What is God teaching people?
Read Galatians 5:16-26 together.
- What words, phrases or concepts stand out to you from this text? Why?
- What do you think it means to “let the Holy Spirit guide your life”?
- How does the Spirit work in us to give us victory over our sinful nature?
- What do you think it means for “these two forces” to be “constantly fighting each other”?
Look again at the list of behaviours, characteristics and attitudes of the Sinful Nature.
- The first three sinful behaviours that Paul mentioned were sexual in nature. Why is this significant? In what ways is ‘sexual sin’ so prevalent in today’s world (even among many Christians)? How can we guard ourselves against this?
- Eight of the behaviours/characteristics/attitudes listed were relational in nature. Why is this significant? In what specific ways does our ‘sinful nature’ have the potential to destroy relationships?
- Of the behaviours listed here, which one(s) are you most susceptible to? Why?
Look again at the fruit of the Spirit.
- In what ways are the “fruit of the Spirit” proof of God’s work in a person’s life? Why is it important to understand that these characteristics are evidence of the Spirit’s work (as opposed to mere human effort)?
- In what ways have you recently seen these fruit displayed in your life?
- Which one(s) do you feel the Spirit needs to grow in you the most? Why?
The Apostle Paul talked about nailing the passions and desires of the sinful nature to the cross.
- What does it look like do this on a daily basis?
- What specific sin/passion/desire are you feeling led to nail to the cross? How can this group help and support you?
- Spend some time in prayer for one another in the group, that we would “follow the Spirit’s leading in every area of our lives.”
