Coming out of Sunday Sept 27th’s teaching, “UNITED: What To Do When We Disagree Theologically“, spend some time in prayerful reflection and dialogue with your Home Church/Friends/Family about these questions:

Read through Romans 14 before starting. Pray and ask God to speak.

  1. What were some of your key takeaways from this Sunday’s message? How did God speak to you?
  2. What are some theological disagreements you have noticed taking place amongst Christians in recent years? How have you seen people navigate these disagreements (positive or negative examples)? What has been the impact of these disagreements?
  3. How can Romans 14 help us as we navigate theological disagreement in the church? Look for at least 3 or 4 directives from Paul in this passage. What do you think each of these should look like for us today?
  4. Consider the 5 ways Jeff said that we could “Aim for Harmony”. Spend some time discussing each one. What do they mean to you? What makes them so challenging? Which one(s) do you sense God inviting you to focus on? Why?
    • • Focusing on the essentials instead of the non-essentials
      • Holding firm to our convictions, while also creating space for other people’s convictions too
      • Remembering that I might be the “weaker believer”
      • Asking a lot of questions; Taking on the posture of a ‘learner’
      • Remembering that the greatest heresy of all is to not love!
  5. What is your one, key takeaway from this discussion? What are you going to do about it?
